Abstract

A clinical decision support system (CDSS) is a software tool, typically integrated directly into an electronic health record, that provides clinicians with patient-specific assessments, alerts, or recommendations at the point of care, intended to improve the quality, safety, and consistency of clinical decision-making. CDSS functionality has become increasingly central to modern healthcare delivery as both the volume of clinically relevant data per patient and the complexity of evidence-based practice guidelines have grown beyond what any individual clinician can reliably retain and apply unaided for every patient encounter [1].
