Abstract

Organ-on-a-chip technology integrates microfluidic engineering with living cell culture to recreate key physiological and mechanical features of human organs, such as fluid shear stress, cyclic mechanical strain, and controlled biochemical gradients, within a compact, instrumented device that allows continuous, real-time monitoring of cellular responses under conditions that are far more physiologically representative than static culture on a flat dish.
