Abstract

Three-dimensional bioprinting has developed into a versatile fabrication strategy for regenerative medicine, using computer-controlled deposition of cell-laden bioinks to construct tissue and organ analogs with defined, patient- or application-specific architecture. Extrusion-based, inkjet-based, and light-assisted (stereolithographic and digital light processing) bioprinting modalities each offer distinct trade-offs among printing resolution, cell viability, and achievable construct scale, allowing researchers to select the technique best suited to a given tissue target.
